“Greater Tuna” @ Civic Theatre

Pat Parker 510.655-8975

El Cerrito, November 1, 2008—What do Arles Struvie, Thurston Wheelis, Aunt Pearl, Petey Fisk, Phineas Bly, and Reverend Spikes have in common? They are among the outstanding citizens of Tuna—the third smallest town in Texas—and just of a few of the colorful characters in “Greater Tuna,” the popular comedy by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard. What’s more, two very talented actors—Joe Fitzgerald and Kyle Nash—play Tuna’s entire population. Directed by Mark Manske, the show opens Friday, November 14, at Contra Costa Civic Theatre. In a tour de force of quick-change artistry (costumes by Anida Weyl) and comic characterizations, the play offers a hilarious send-up of small-town mores.

“Greater Tuna” is produced by Amy Nielson, Myriah Nottage is stage manager, set design is by Matt Flynn, lighting by Greg Milholland, sound by Travis Rexroat, and properties by Kate Culbertson. A no-host reception to meet the cast and crew will follow the opening-night performance. The show plays Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm through December 7.

Tickets are $11 for ages 16 and under and $18 for adults and may be ordered online at or by calling 510.524.9132. Half-price tickets are available November 14, 15, and 21 ONLY and must be purchased on the website. When available, $11 student rush tickets can be purchased at the theatre 10 minutes prior to a performance, with a valid student ID and cannot be reserved in advance. CCCT is located at 951 Pomona Avenue (at Moeser) in El Cerrito, with free parking in an adjacent lot.
